Nathan's Pie and Mash
|
Does anyone know if the owners opened up somewhere else? They said just before they closed that they were looking for other premises so wondered if they had.

Mr Burns I know where that is but it wasn't there in my day. It is near where i went to Cubs and Scouts. The only thing I remember of interest in the shops along that bit of the high st were the sports shop and toy shop. The sports shop is where you went to get the latest noots, moulded studs!

It was such a long time ago I can’t remember. I’ve found this pic, I missed the word taverna off.

Is the Hammers Steakhouse the one that was opposite the Station on the corner of Kings Road?

Mr Burns
When I lived in East Ham it was more Hearts, Liver, Faggots and Rabbit! Steak wasn't on the menu too often so I don't remember the Hammers Steakhouse, where was it?

In this debate over what constitutes a decent meal of Pie and Mash, there has been little comment on the most important ingredient which is of course the liquor.
Traditionally the liquor is made from the juice of stewed eels, if a Pie and Mash shop doesn't have decent stewed eels permanently on the go then imo it is unlikely they make decent pie mash.
The best Pie & Mash for me was always Cookes on East Ham High Street with the live eels in the big butler sink out the front. A lot of years ago mind!

How could anywhere fuck up pie and mash? It's the culinary level of making fucking toast or a cup of tea. Eaten by old cunts with a sad lonely future and not very adventurous tastes.
FUCK OFF

It always annoyed me that Nathan’s served mash with an ice cream scoop, what is that all about, the mash should be smeared across the plate

I liked Robins in High St North best but it's an individual thing. There is never "the best" as we all have different preferences. I wasn't as keen on the pies in Nathans but the staff were lovely.

Robins the original and best in East Ham high street. Long gone though but still some other shops elsewhere.
Maureens in Poplar does nationwide delivery I think. Something random like that.
